So you have a new AIO CPU cooler and you are ready to install it. Whether you are building a new PC or upgrading from an air cooler, the process is straightforward. Follow these steps, and you will have your CPU cooler AIO up and running in no time.
Lay your PC case flat on a desk or table. This gives you easy access to the motherboard.
If you are replacing an existing cooler, remove the old one. Unplug the fan cables, unscrew the cooler, and gently twist it to loosen the thermal paste before lifting it off. Clean any leftover paste from the CPU using a paper towel and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.
Your AIO CPU cooler comes with different brackets for different CPU sockets. Check which bracket fits your motherboard.
Refer to your cooler's manual to confirm which brackets to use.
Decide where to mount the radiator. Most cases allow installation on the top or front.
Use the long screws included with your liquid cooler to secure the radiator to the case. If your radiator fans are not pre-installed, screw them onto the radiator first. Make sure the fan cables are accessible so you can plug them in later.
For a 240mm AIO CPU cooler, you will have two fans. For a 360mm AIO CPU cooler, you will have three.
If your CPU liquid cooler has thermal paste pre-applied on the copper plate, you can skip this step.
If not, place a small dot of thermal paste in the center of the CPU. A dot about the size of a grain of rice is enough. The pressure from the pump will spread it evenly.
Remove the protective plastic cover from the copper plate of the AIO CPU cooler pump. This is an important step—if you leave the plastic on, your CPU will overheat.
Place the pump over the CPU. Line it up with the standoffs or mounting brackets you installed earlier.
Tighten the screws in a criss-cross pattern. Give each screw a few turns at a time. Stop when the pump feels snug. Do not overtighten.
Your computer's liquid cooling system has a few cables to connect.
Take a moment to route the cables neatly behind the motherboard tray. This keeps your build clean and improves airflow.
Before putting the side panel back on, power on your PC.
If the temperature looks good, you are ready to put the side panel back on and enjoy your gaming PC liquid cooled build.
If your PC shuts off or the CPU temperature is too high:
Installing a liquid CPU cooler is a simple upgrade that keeps your CPU running cool and quiet. Whether you choose a 240mm AIO CPU cooler for a compact build or a 360mm AIO CPU cooler for maximum cooling, the installation steps are the same.
